This May, Malaysians can look forward to a barrel of laughs with the much-acclaimed Korean dance comedy, Break Out – Extreme Dance Comedy, in its debut performance in the country. Organized by Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) and sponsored by LG Electronics (M) Sdn. Bhd., the B-boy performance is set to rock the country and have the audience in stitches with continuously evolving and changing dance routines with its six charity performances in Kuala Lumpur and Penang!
Break Out tells the tale of five clumsy convicts who long to taste the freedom that lies beyond the walls of prison. These five prisoners are inspired to plan a daring escape into the outside world when they received a mysterious and sacred text. The story is told in a form of a dance that adapts pre-existing dance moves and combines gymnastics, break dancing, yoga and martial arts moving to unparalleled DJ music – a performance as never before.
Break Out brings a new genre of entertainment that is refreshing with the B-Boy’s unimaginable free dance moves that pushes the limits of the body’s movements. Unlike other genres of dance, the moves are continuously changing and evolving allowing freedom of form that is refreshing and unimaginable. The hip-hop culture and influence in B-boying is apparent in the catchy movements of the dances, fashion styles and music, all of which are presented in Break Out.
An instant box office hit in South Korea, this extreme dance comedy promises to entertain an audience of any age and culture. Since its 2007 opening show in Korea, Break Out has performed to international audiences in London, New York, Mumbai, Shanghai and Bangkok.
“KTO is bringing in Break Out Extreme Dance Comedy in celebration of the 1st year anniversary of Korea Sparkling, the Korea Tourism Brand. The Korean culture is gaining great popularity throughout the world as a result of the Korean Wave brought about by popular movies, dramas and music from Korea,” said Korea Tourism Organization Managing Director, Mr. Kim Kee Hun, at the launch.
Net proceeds from the Break Out Charity Performances will be given to two charity organisations for the less fortunate. Proceeds from the Kuala Lumpur performances will be channelled to the LG Cleft Lip Project, a fund-raising project that is part of the consumer electronic giant’s corporate responsibility efforts to provide treatment and care for underprivileged patients who are affected by cleft lip and palate. Meanwhile, proceeds from the Penang shows will be donated to D’Home Mental Health Association, a charitable organization that provides support, guidance and education to family members and care-givers of the mentally ill.
“We are pleased to be the main sponsor for such a unique and highly entertaining performance aimed at bringing pleasure to the public. What more, as people enjoy themselves with friends and families at the Break Out shows, they will also be lending a hand to the less fortunate as the net proceeds of all performances will go to charity,” said Mr. T. Y. Ko, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LG Electronics (M) Sdn Bhd.
“This is a great partnership with KTO where we can share more of the Korean culture and developments with Malaysians,” he added.
